Medical Weight Loss in Chicagoland, Led by a Provider Who Knows You by Name

You have tried the diets. You have counted, restricted and started over more times than you can count. The problem was never your willpower. It was your metabolism, your hormones and a plan that was never built for your body. Medical weight loss here means real medication options, both oral and injectable, prescribed and managed by a board-certified nurse practitioner with nearly 30 years of clinical experience. Initial evaluation $125, monthly follow-ups $100. ShapeScale included.

Every appointment requires a deposit of 30% of the appointment price, credited toward the visit. The initial in-person weight-loss consultation costs $125 with a $37.50 deposit.

Monthly or follow-up weight-loss appointments cost $100 and include a 30-day supply of phentermine only if prescribed at your provider's discretion. Your provider determines whether phentermine is appropriate for you. Medication is not guaranteed. This inclusion is for phentermine, not GLP-1 medications.

Free phone consultation for every service. No prescribing on the call.

Before Your Medical Weight Loss Appointment

Your first medical weight loss visit is designed to help us understand your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, medication history, weight history, labs and goals.

If we are drawing labs in office during your medical weight loss intake appointment, please come fasting for 12 hours. You may drink water during this time.

Please avoid food, coffee, tea, juice, soda, cream, sugar, gum, candy and mints before your lab draw.

Please continue prescribed medications unless your medical provider has instructed you differently.

Drink water before your visit so you are well hydrated for your lab draw.

If you are diabetic, pregnant, breastfeeding, have blood sugar concerns or have been instructed not to fast, please contact Shaperz before your appointment for specific instructions.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Our comprehensive weight loss program combines provider-prescribed oral or injectable medications, vitamins, supplements, nutrition guidance and individualized clinical monitoring.

Our program uses provider-prescribed GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist medications, which regulate appetite and insulin secretion, when clinically appropriate.

Medication is not guaranteed at the first visit. Treatment recommendations depend on your health history, symptoms, labs, contraindications and provider assessment.

    • Clinical assessment by our nurse practitioner
    • Customized treatment plan built around your body, labs and goals
    • Nutrition guidance
    • Movement recommendations
    • Medication options when appropriate, oral and injectable
    • Vitamins and supplements when clinically appropriate
    • Hormone education
    • Lab review
    • ShapeScale tracking
    • Body composition monitoring
    • Follow-up care

    ShapeScale Body Composition Tracking

ShapeScale is a 3D body scanning and progress-tracking tool that helps us evaluate body composition, measurements, shape and visual changes that may not show up on a traditional scale. It gives you and your provider a fuller picture of how your weight management or metabolic reset program is working.

A ShapeScale assessment is included complimentary with our initial weight loss program. Clients enrolled in a monthly weight loss program receive a ShapeScale assessment every month at no additional charge, making it easier to identify trends, celebrate non-scale progress and adjust the plan when needed.

For the most accurate measurements, please wear tight fitted clothing, pull hair up and off the neck and avoid layers of clothing. Loose clothing, bulky clothing, sweatshirts, shapewear, layers and heavy accessories may affect scan accuracy.

After your scan, please download the ShapeScale app from the ShapeScale email you receive to access your results. Your results will be reviewed at your next monthly appointment.

    • Wear tight fitted clothing
    • Pull hair up and off the neck
    • Do not wear layers of clothing
    • Avoid bulky clothing or shapewear
    • Remove shoes and heavy accessories as instructed
    • Use the restroom before your scan if possible

ShapeScale is a progress tracking tool, not a judgment of your body. Use it to celebrate the changes a regular scale may miss.

Baseline Labs (Evaluated Case by Case)

Safe, effective weight loss starts with knowing your numbers. Lab needs are evaluated case by case by our nurse practitioner, if you have recent labs on file, those may suffice. When labs are needed, they can be completed in-house at our Chicagoland office, with the option to bill through your insurance.

    • Complete blood count (CBC)
    • Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)
    • Thyroid screening (TSH, free T3 and free T4)
    • Hemoglobin A1c
    • Lipid panel
    • Fasting insulin
    • Vitamin D level
    • Vitamin B12
    • C-reactive protein (CRP)

Additional labs may be added based on your history. Learn more on our Labs and Testing page.

    Clinic-Based Care

Care is provided through our Chicago clinic, where your provider can evaluate your progress and coordinate each stage of your care.

Your provider will explain when an in-clinic evaluation, lab work or follow-up appointment is needed.

    • Chicago clinic-based medical care
    • Ongoing provider monitoring and medication management
    • In-clinic evaluations and lab work when required

    Who This Is For

We treat ages 16 and up in Chicagoland, done with quick fixes and looking for medical support that treats the cause. Whether you have 15 pounds or 100 pounds to lose, the program meets you where you are.

This is not a one-size-fits-all program. You are evaluated and followed by the same provider throughout your care.

    Lab Preparation

Please bring your ID and any required lab paperwork. Drink water before your appointment unless you were instructed to restrict fluids. If fasting labs are ordered, follow the fasting instructions provided by Shaperz Wellness or your provider.

For medical weight loss intake visits where labs are drawn in office, please come fasting for 12 hours. Do not stop prescribed medications unless your medical provider has instructed you differently.

Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound: your questions answered

These brand names come up often when people research medical weight loss. Here is what each one contains, what the FDA has approved it to treat, and how your provider decides what may fit your situation.

Are Mounjaro and Zepbound the same medication?

Mounjaro® and Zepbound® contain the same active ingredient, tirzepatide, but have different FDA-approved uses. An indication simply means the condition a medication is approved to treat.

    • Mounjaro is approved to help manage blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. It also has an approved use to reduce major cardiovascular risks in certain adults with type 2 diabetes.
    • Zepbound is approved for weight loss and long-term weight management in adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related health condition. It is also approved to treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity.

Think of them as the same active medication under different brand names for different treatment purposes. Your diagnosis, treatment goals and insurance requirements help determine which may be appropriate.

What is the difference between Ozempic and Wegovy?

Ozempic® and Wegovy® both contain semaglutide, but their approved uses, doses and available formulations differ.

    • Ozempic is approved to help manage blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It also helps reduce certain cardiovascular and kidney risks in qualifying adults with type 2 diabetes. Ozempic is not FDA-approved specifically for weight loss.
    • Wegovy is approved for weight loss and long-term weight management in eligible people with obesity, or adults with overweight and a weight-related health condition. It also has approved uses for cardiovascular risk reduction in certain adults, and the injectable formulation has an approved use for a specific form of liver disease called MASH.

Although they share an active ingredient, Ozempic and Wegovy should not be treated as interchangeable prescriptions.

How are semaglutide and tirzepatide different?

Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, acts on the GLP-1 receptor. Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro and Zepbound, acts on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. These medications can help regulate appetite and blood sugar, but the best choice depends on your individual health needs.

Can Shaperz prescribe Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound in Chicago?

At Shaperz Elite Wellness & Aesthetics, we evaluate whether a brand-name prescription medication is appropriate for your medical history and treatment goals. A consultation does not guarantee a particular medication, insurance approval or availability. Your provider will explain your options and build a personalized plan with ongoing support.

Ready to explore your options? Schedule your medical weight management consultation with Shaperz.

Oral Weight-Loss Medications: Your Questions Answered

Explore your options with a medical weight management consultation at Shaperz Elite Wellness & Aesthetics.

Can I lose weight with pills instead of injections?

Yes. Oral prescription options may support weight management alongside nutrition, physical activity, and ongoing medical care. Some are FDA-approved specifically for weight management; others may be prescribed off-label, meaning for a purpose outside their FDA-approved indications.

How do the oral options compare?

    Oral Wegovy® (semaglutide)
What it does: Helps regulate appetite and food intake through the GLP-1 receptor.
Approval and key differences: FDA-approved for long-term weight management in eligible adults. Taken daily on an empty stomach, with specific water and waiting instructions.
    Foundayo® (orforglipron)
What it does: An oral GLP-1 medication that helps regulate appetite and food intake.
Approval and key differences: FDA-approved for long-term weight management in eligible adults. Taken daily with or without food; it does not require the fasting routine used with oral Wegovy.
    Phentermine
    What it does: Suppresses appetite.
Approval and key differences: FDA-approved for short-term weight management. Longer-term prescribing is off-label. Blood pressure, heart history, and sleep are important considerations.
    Qsymia®
What it does: Combines phentermine with extended-release topiramate to reduce appetite and support fullness.
Approval and key differences: FDA-approved for long-term weight management in eligible patients. Requires monitoring and pregnancy precautions.
    Topiramate
What it does: May reduce appetite and food cravings in some people.
Approval and key differences: Approved for seizures and migraine prevention. Used alone for weight management, it is off-label.
    Metformin
What it does: Reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body’s response to insulin.
Approval and key differences: Approved for type 2 diabetes. Sometimes used off-label for conditions such as prediabetes or PCOS; weight loss is generally modest.
    Low-dose naltrexone (LDN)
What it does: A lower-dose, off-label use of naltrexone, a medication that blocks opioid receptors.
Approval and key differences: Not FDA-approved for weight loss. Evidence supporting LDN specifically for weight management is limited.

What is the difference between oral Wegovy and Foundayo?

Both are daily oral GLP-1 medications, but they contain different active ingredients: Wegovy contains semaglutide, while Foundayo contains orforglipron.

    • A practical difference is how you take them. Oral Wegovy must be taken in the morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of plain water, followed by at least a 30-minute wait before food, drinks, or other oral medications. Foundayo can be taken with or without food.
    • Neither is automatically the best choice for everyone. Your health history, medication interactions, daily routine, coverage, and treatment response help guide the decision.

Is Qsymia the same as taking phentermine or topiramate separately?

Qsymia contains both phentermine and extended-release topiramate in a specific combination approved for long-term weight management. Phentermine alone is approved for short-term use, while topiramate alone is not approved specifically for weight loss.

    • Separate prescriptions are not automatically equivalent to Qsymia. Topiramate-containing treatments can cause tingling, changes in taste, or difficulty with concentration and memory. They also carry a risk of birth defects, making pregnancy prevention and appropriate testing essential for patients who can become pregnant.

Does metformin help with weight loss?

Metformin may lead to modest weight loss in some people, particularly when there is a related metabolic reason to prescribe it. It is not FDA-approved as a weight-loss medication and usually does not produce the same degree of weight loss as medications developed specifically for obesity.

Is low-dose naltrexone the same as Contrave?

No. Contrave® combines naltrexone with bupropion and is FDA-approved for long-term weight management in eligible adults. Low-dose naltrexone alone is a different, off-label approach with limited evidence for weight loss.

    • Naltrexone can interfere with opioid pain medications and trigger withdrawal in people who are opioid-dependent. Your provider must review your medications before considering it.

How does Shaperz choose the right medication for me?

We review your medical history, weight-related health concerns, appetite patterns, current medications, treatment preferences, and budget. We also discuss expected benefits, side effects, and monitoring needs.

    • A consultation does not guarantee a specific prescription or insurance coverage. Our goal is a personalized, sustainable plan, not simply a prescription.

This information is educational and does not replace an individualized medical evaluation.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a monthly weight-loss follow-up, and is medication included?

Monthly or follow-up weight-loss appointments cost $100 and include a 30-day supply of phentermine only if prescribed at your provider's discretion. Your provider determines whether phentermine is appropriate for you. Medication is not guaranteed.

What GLP-1 medications do you offer?

We offer both brand-name and compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for individual patients and are not FDA-approved. Your provider will walk you through both options, including cost, so you can choose what fits you.

How much weight can I lose on a GLP-1 medication?

Most patients on semaglutide lose 10 to 15 percent of their body weight over several months and tirzepatide studies show average losses of 15 to 20 percent. Your results depend on your dose, consistency and habits, which is why every Shaperz Wellness plan includes ongoing provider follow-up.

Do I have to do injections or are there oral weight loss medications?

You have both options. We offer injectable GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide as well as oral medication alternatives and we will help you choose based on your health history, goals and comfort level.

Do I need labs before starting weight loss medication?

Labs are evaluated case by case by our nurse practitioner. If you have recent labs on file, those may suffice, if not, we can complete your labs in-house at our Chicagoland office and labs can be billed through your insurance.

    Is medical weight loss safe?

GLP-1 medications are well studied and are safest when prescribed and monitored by a licensed provider. At Shaperz Wellness your program is managed by a nurse practitioner with Full Practice Authority and nearly 30 years of clinical experience, with screening, dosing oversight and follow-up built in.

Do you take insurance for weight loss?

Our programs are cash-based with transparent pricing and we accept HSA, FSA, Cherry and CareCredit. Many patients find this more affordable and far less frustrating than fighting insurance denials for GLP-1 coverage.

Where is Shaperz located for medical weight loss?
