Before Your Draw
- Fast for 10 to 12 hours before your draw.
- Drink 3 cups of water before you come in.
- Labs are best drawn before 10 AM.
- Skip biotin supplements for 2 days before.
- Female BHRT panel: if you still have periods, schedule your draw on day 19 to 21 of your cycle.
- PMOS / PCOS panel: if you get periods, schedule your draw on day 2 to 5 of your cycle. If your periods are irregular or absent, any day is fine.
Insurance Based Laboratory Testing
Shaperz works with HealthLab, Inc., an affiliate of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, to provide laboratory testing for eligible patients.
If you choose to use insurance for your laboratory testing, HealthLab will bill your insurance directly. A separate $20 convenience fee is charged by Shaperz when your blood is drawn in our office. This fee covers the in-office collection service and is not billed to insurance.
Once available, laboratory results can be viewed through the MyNM patient portal, powered by MyChart. Insurance coverage and patient responsibility vary by plan. Patients should contact their insurance company or HealthLab with questions about coverage and laboratory billing.
Medical Follow Up Is Required
Laboratory testing does not include an automatic medical review or treatment plan. A separate medical consultation must be scheduled with Shaperz to review your results, discuss their clinical significance, and receive recommendations.
If you do not schedule a follow-up consultation with Shaperz, you are responsible for accessing your results and arranging a timely review with your primary care practitioner or another qualified healthcare professional. Without a scheduled follow-up, Shaperz is not responsible for interpreting the results, developing a treatment plan, or providing ongoing management based on those results.

Do I need a doctor's order to get labs?
No. Shaperz Wellness is led by a nurse practitioner with Full Practice Authority in Illinois, which means we can order, draw, and interpret your labs directly, all in one place.
What is the difference between normal and optimal lab ranges?
Standard reference ranges describe the broad population, including people who feel unwell. Optimal functional ranges are the narrower zones where most people feel and perform their best. We review every result against both, and we treat the person, not just the paper.
How fast do lab results come back?
Most panels return within a few business days, while some hormone tests take 3–5 days. Either way, you will review the results directly with your provider, not just receive numbers in an inbox.
Can I use insurance for my labs?
Yes. If you use insurance, HealthLab, Inc., an affiliate of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, bills your insurance directly for the testing, and Shaperz charges a separate $20 convenience fee for the in-office blood draw. Results are viewable through the MyNM patient portal, powered by MyChart. A separate medical consultation is required to review your results.

30% Deposit and Flat $50 Late Cancellation or No-Show Fee
Every appointment requires a deposit of 30% of the appointment price, credited toward the visit. Late cancellation (under 24 hours) or no-show: flat $50 fee. Appointment only. No walk-ins.
