Yes, laser can work for deeper skin tones
Laser works by targeting the pigment in your hair. Darker skin also has more pigment, so the laser has to tell the difference between your hair and your skin. That's why the right device, the right settings and an experienced provider matter so much. Done wrong, laser can cause burns or dark marks.
We use a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser, the wavelength most often recommended for brown and Black skin. Its longer wavelength passes through the top layer of your skin and reaches the hair follicle underneath. Less of its energy is absorbed by the pigment in your skin, which lowers the risk of burns and dark marks.
That's also why every Shaperz client with deeper skin (Fitzpatrick types IV to VI) gets a test spot at least 48 hours before their first full session. We see how your skin responds before we treat the whole area.

How it works

Free consultation and test spot.
Tell us what you want to treat and what's happened with shaving, waxing or past laser. We'll check your skin type and place a test spot.

Your first session, at least 48 hours later.
Once we see how your skin responded, we treat the full area.

Your series.
Hair grows in cycles, so most areas need 6 to 8 sessions. Facial areas are treated every 4 to 6 weeks and body areas every 6 to 8 weeks. Some people need a touch-up later.

Prep and aftercare.
Shave 12 to 24 hours before each visit. No waxing or plucking for 4 weeks before, and no sun or self-tanner for 2 weeks before. We'll send you the full instructions.
